Brazilian Economy: Recent performance, business opportunities and challenges ahead

The presentation Brazilian Economy: Recent performance, business opportunities and challenges ahead will bring a thorough overview of the Brazilian economy in the recent years, focusing on macroeconomic stabilization and on some major structural shifts that have occurred in Brazil which have provided good conditions for sustained economic growth.

Mr Rocha will give a brief summary about macroeconomic reforms that have borne fruits in the following years, like privatization, which allowed a gain of productivity in the last years. There is a huge sense that more should be done to conquer higher standards of economic development in the years ahead and the actual government has a complete analysis of the situation and is working hard to improve the infrastructure needs of the Brazilian economy along with broad reforms to gain competitiveness. Élcio Gomes Rocha is the Chief-Economist of Banco do Brasil, currently Latin America’s largest Financial Institution, whose headquarter is located in Brasilia - Brazil.

Having a Master's Degree in Economics from University of Brasilia (UnB) he has served for years as Macroeconomics Professor in Brasilia.

He has worked in Banco do Brasil since 1987. In 2000 he joined a work group which gathered the Bank's top economists whose outcome was the set up of the Management of Economic Advisory, which is the responsible department for studies, monitoring and macroeconomics scenario for both internal and international affairs.

He took office as Chief-Economist in 2010.
