Anglo American’s Minas-Rio: Completing a mega-project in Brazil

In October 2014 Anglo American completed the project phase of Minas-Rio, one of the world’s largest iron ore developments situated in Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro. With a 529 km pipeline and spread across 32 municipalities, construction at its peak involved 20,000 employees and contractors.

Paulo Castellari, CEO of Iron Ore Brazil at Anglo American shared his experience of the challenges and milestones in achieving first ore on ship, pulling out the key learnings for successful long term investment in Brazil.

 

Paulo Castellari-Porchia is CEO Iron Ore Brazil at Anglo American plc and a member of the Group Management Committee. Prior to taking on this role in January 2012, he served as Commercial Director of Iron Ore Brazil and has also been Chief Executive of Anglo American’s Phosphates and Niobium business in Brazil. Paulo started his career at AngloGold Ashanti and Minorco in a number of corporate finance and capital project roles. He also has extensive experience in strategic planning and business development.

Paulo graduated in Business Administration at the Getúlio Vargas Foundation, São Paulo, and holds an MBA in Strategic Planning from the London Business School.
