Mark Abbs has over 20 years of tax and HR experience, including 16 years in Big 4 accountancy firms.

He is a UK and US expatriate tax specialist with broad experience of helping organisations manage their global workforce and individuals who travel, work or live outside of their home country. Mark advises on tax planning and tax compliance relating to international mobility including international tax treaties, international social security, cross-border pensions, cross-border share reporting, tax equalisation and assignment policies, employer reporting, expat shadow and “modified” payrolls.

Mark is widely regarded as an industry expert and leads our Expatriate Tax Services team. In addition to writing the Chapter on Expatriate Taxes for a well-known publisher, Mark has been an Expert Witness in a UK/US Tax Equalisation case in the High Court, leads the BKR International Expat Tax Practice Group in EMEA / Asia Pacific and regularly presents on global mobility issues including at meetings of the German, Austrian, Italian and Spanish Chambers of Commerce in London.

Mark is a Fellow of the UK Association of Tax Technicians, an Enrolled Agent of the US IRS, a member of the Academy of Experts, has a Master of Laws in International Commercial Laws and an MBA in International Management from the University of London. For his MBA, Mark specialised in global management of employees and understanding different business practices around the world. Mark is a member of Mensa.
