Insurance and Reinsurance in Brazil: Overview and Update

The Brazilian Chamber hosted a breakfast presentation on the new Brazilian government’s approach to economic reform and specifically the role of (re)insurance in that reform. 

The event aimed at bringing up current hot topics in the Brazilian (re)insurance industry such as regulation developments, claims handling updates, market trends and prospective challenges and opportunities for both national and international investors.

As far as the Brazilian (re)insurance market is concerned, the event aimed to specifically discuss recent local business trends (including claims), the impending 2017-2020 reinsurance regulatory changes, the surety bond market, changes in D&O insurance, title insurance, universal life, the status of the project to develop Brazil as a regional reinsurance hub, among other topics.

  Marcelo Mansur Haddad, Partner at Mattos Filho Advogados: Marcelo  counsels    (re)insurance companies on regulatory and corporate matters (including M&A), as well as distribution  agreements, claims and litigation. He has been actively involved in the most  significant transactions and claims matters taking place in Brazil in the recent past.

 

 Cassio Gama Amaral, Partner at Mattos Filho Advogados: Cassio’s practice focuses on    advising (re)insurance companies in claims handling proceedings as well as (re)insurance  litigation, mediation and arbitration. He has advised major (re)insurance companies in Brazil  and abroad on various claims matters.

 

 Rodrigo Ferreira Figueiredo, Partner at Mattos Filho Advogados: Rodrigo advises  businesses on a wide range of corporate matters. Rodrigo has played a major role in the  opening of our London  office, in which he acts as our resident partner. He is an Officer of the  Corporate and M&A Law Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA).
