Largs Primary School has been chosen to take part in The Spirit of Brazil, a competition to design a tartan for Brazil, in recognition of its unique links to Charles Miller – the Brazilian-Scot widely credited with introducing football to Brazil – and its close proximity to Kelburn Castle, known for the vibrant Brazilian street art that decorates its walls and turret.
Primary 7 pupils were invited to submit their tartan designs to a judging panel that included the Brazilian Consul General alongside fellow classmates. The winning design features the colours of the Brazilian flag, complemented by a subtle touch of red in homage to the school’s own colours.
The final design has now been officially recognised as a national tartan of Brazil and endorsed by the first-ever Brazilian Consulate in Edinburgh, symbolising the deep and lasting friendship between Brazil and Scotland. To read more, click on the PDF file link below.
